Chemical Safety FAQsUpdated 12 days ago
At Walker Edison, your safety and peace of mind are important to us. Below are answers to common questions about chemicals and materials used in our products:
Do you use fire retardants in your products?
We do not use fire retardants in our products unless required by law. Certain items like mattresses or upholstered pieces may need to pass mandatory flammability tests that require flame retardants. However, items such as TV stands, desks, and sideboards do not include fire retardants.
Do your products contain “forever chemicals”?
No. Walker Edison products do not contain “forever chemicals,” including perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are commonly used to make fabrics more stain-resistant. We avoid these substances because they are harmful to people and the environment.
Is formaldehyde used in your furniture?
Formaldehyde can occur naturally in many materials and may be found in small amounts in MDF and plywood. All of our MDF complies with California’s CARB Phase 2 standards, which are some of the strictest regulations for formaldehyde emissions in the world. This ensures low exposure and a safe product for your home.
Do you use lead-based paint?
Absolutely not. Walker Edison does not use and has never used lead-based paint in any of our products.
Why does my furniture have a strong smell when I first open the box?
It’s common for new furniture to have a noticeable scent when first unpacked. This typically comes from adhesives or wood finishes used in manufacturing. The smell is not harmful and should fade within 24–48 hours in a well-ventilated space.
If needed, try moving the item to a larger or more open area (like a garage) temporarily to help the odor dissipate more quickly.
